Bringing Filipino Ethnic Music to Europe: Digibox Livestreams Edru Abraham’s Improvisation Session

26/08/2022

A Philippine-based film producer working for an international film tapped Digibox Audiovisual Productions to set up a livestream for a rehearsal featuring traditional Filipino ethnic instruments. The session involved students under Edru Abraham, founder of the Kontemporaryong Gamelan Pilipino (KGP). These students, members of KGP, brought their expertise to an improvisation session that would be used as the film's soundtrack.

Although the filmmaker/director was based in Europe, he wanted to listen, interact, and experience the rehearsal in real-time with high-quality audio and video. Digibox delivered a professional Zoom livestream setup to ensure an immersive experience.

To achieve HD video, a Sony A6400 camera was used as the webcam source. Audio was captured using four professional microphones/boom mics to preserve the intricate sounds of the instruments. The venue's poor internet connection was resolved using our Spitz router with network bonding via Speedify, ensuring a stable, uninterrupted livestream.

With this setup, the filmmaker could watch and interact with the musicians live, gathering inspiration for his film score. For Digibox, the project was an opportunity to support Filipino musicians and innovative creative projects, while bringing the rich sounds of Filipino ethnic music to a global audience.
