Not An Angry Christ

Digibox produced the compelling audio-visual presentation (AVP) "Not an Angry Christ," directed by Marinette Lusanta and produced by Mayee Fabregas, exploring the rich significance and symbolism of Alfonso Ossorio's iconic mural at the Chapel of St. Joseph the Worker in the Victorias Milling Corp. compound, Negros Occidental. Written and narrated by Liliane Rejante Manahan, the AVP takes viewers beyond the popular moniker "The Angry Christ"—a reference to the seemingly fierce expression of the floor-to-ceiling Christ figure—to uncover deeper interpretations of the 160-square-meter altar piece, whose real title is "The Last Judgement."

The documentary contextualizes Ossorio as one of New York's early abstract expressionists, whose groundbreaking work helped shift the art world's focus from Paris to New York, and delves into the mural's layered meanings, including insights discovered during the chapel's ongoing restoration led by Liliane Rejante Manahan and revisiting research by Prof. Eric Torres in 1967. Original music for the AVP was composed by Erica Cawagas, adding an immersive auditory experience to the visual narrative. Through careful shooting and post-production, Digibox crafted a presentation that illuminates the artistic, historical, and spiritual dimensions of this celebrated masterpiece.
